FRENCH SONGBIRD PERFORMS FIRST TIME IN BRISBANE - Selling out some of the world’s top venues including a 17,000-seat Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, French songbird Belle Du Berry and Australian multi-instrumentalist David Lewis will perform their acclaimed blend of classic French cabaret and American jazz for the first time in Brisbane at the Judith Wright Centre on Friday 3 September 2010.
CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED JAZZ BAND PREMIERES NEW MUSIC FOR HOME CROWD - Fresh from a successful UK tour and drawing comparisons with EST, The Necks and Radiohead, critically acclaimed jazz trio Misinterprotato returns home to premiere music from their highly anticipated fourth album, The Gentle War, at the Judith Wright Centre from Thursday 19 to Saturday 21 August 2010. Delicate classical melodies collide with gritty rock and exuberant rhythms in The Gentle War, taking listeners on a journey from the snow-covered, cobbled streets of Europe to the scorching heat of an Australian summer.
SEDUCTIVE BLEND OF DANCE AND JAZZ SERVES UP PERFECT NIGHT OUT - Red rose petals rain down on a lady poised on a white bed. Snow falls on a young traveller who pines for her lover. One man tries to capture his alter ego in a corridor; another knits himself an identity from a giant ball of multi-coloured yarn. These are just some of the lingering snapshots that emerge in the dark fantasy world of While Others Sleep, a seductive blend of dance and jazz that will premiere at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts from Thursday 12 to Saturday 21 August 2010. For the first time Expressions Dance Company (EDC), Judith Wright Centre and acclaimed jazz trio Misinterprotato join forces to present an intimate cabaret-style show of sensual physicality and revealing tales of eccentricity and hidden identities.
BRISBANE BRACES FOR ROCK’N’ROLL CABARET DEBAUCHERY - Brisbane should brace for a “wild ride of rock and roll cabaret debauchery” says acclaimed spoken word artist and vocalist Ghostboy, who will perform alongside Golden Virtues with a guest appearance by Martin Martini in Swallow and Exit at the Judith Wright Centre on Friday 6 August 2010.
AWARD WINNING JAZZ TRIO BRING A BIT OF SOUTH AMERICA TO BRISBANE - Brisbane audiences will be transported to South America and beyond when Melbourne's internationally renowned Ben Winkelman Trio ignite the Judith Wright Centre stage with their energetic jazz tunes on Friday 30 July 2010. The award winning piano trio will perform new music from their third album, Odysseys (Jazzhead), with original compositions that relish in the romantic and energetic, from Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music to stride piano, Argentinean tango and classical.
