Close Proximity investigates the minutiae of the human body; its physical, theatrical and performative presence in a space dedicated to 'viewing'.
Located in the Shopfront of The Judith Wright Centre, the body is under close scrutiny; sometimes uncomfortable, sometimes delighted in being 'watched. The audience is invited to become voyeur, window shopper, visitor, intruder, witness and even... participant.
This new investigation by choreographer & performer Elise May began as an exploration between camera & the minutiae of the dancer's body. Through a three stage development process, it has evolved into an exploration of new relationships between dance movement, sound, design, video & installation. This work questions spatial and digital proximity with and the body framed, viewed, reflected and revealed.
Close Proximity exists in two parts: an installation investigating space, sound, design and video able to be viewed from Brunswick Street from Wed 11 Feb. The installation then transforms into a performative playground for two nights of live performances on 12 & 13 February. Patrons can enter the Shopfront at 7pm following each performance to inspect the installation in close proximity.
