Fresh from a successful UK tour, acclaimed Brisbane contemporary jazz trio Misinterprotato return to the Judith Wright Centre this August to launch their eagerly anticipated fourth album The Gentle War over three consecutive nights of dazzling live music.
Recorded in cool Tallebudgera and mixed in Minneapolis, The Gentle War sees a complex fusion of strong rhythmic currents and delicate melodic statements. The result is a compelling sound described by the band as simultaneously thunderous and hushed.
Misinterprotato’s new album, certainly their most intimate release to date, marks 10 years of music making for Sean Foran (piano), John Parker (drums) and Pat Marchisella (acoustic bass). This is a very special opportunity for both Misinterprotato fans and lovers of contemporary jazz to experience the new album ahead of its official release and the trio’s national tour.
Misinterprotato are joined by special guests percussionist Tunji Bier (20 August only) and guitarist Toby Wren (21 August only).
“an absorbing performance from a band with an intriguingly original approach to music-making” - The Vortex (London)
"part of the new wave of piano trios, citing influences such as EST, The Necks and Radiohead. Emphasizing an ensemble approach, they are more than comfortable cranking up the volume, generating mesmeric and fluid runs, working in tight with each other" - The Age
